Trigger Point Injections

Targeted Relief for Muscle Pain and Tension

Trigger points are sensitive, tight areas within a muscle that may contribute to localized pain, tenderness, and restricted movement. When these areas become irritated or remain tense, they can make everyday activities uncomfortable.

At Trinity Wellness Center, trigger point injections (TPI) may be used as part of an individualized treatment plan to help relieve pain and reduce muscle tension.

What Are Trigger Point Injections?

Trigger point injections are designed to target specific areas of muscle that are contributing to pain or tenderness.

During the procedure, a healthcare professional uses a small needle to access the affected area. Depending on your individual treatment plan, the injection may contain a local anesthetic and, when appropriate, another medication such as a corticosteroid.

In some situations, a dry-needling technique may be considered instead of medication.

Trigger point injections are typically performed in an office setting and generally take only a few minutes. Your provider will determine which areas should be treated and whether trigger point injections are appropriate for you.

What Can Trigger Point Injections Help With?

Trigger point injections may be considered for certain types of muscle-related pain and tension, including discomfort affecting areas such as:

  • Neck

  • Shoulders

  • Upper and lower back

  • Arms

  • Legs

  • Other areas affected by muscle trigger points

They may also be considered as part of a treatment plan for certain conditions involving myofascial pain or muscle tension.

What to Expect

Before treatment, your provider will evaluate your symptoms and discuss your medical history to determine whether trigger point injections are appropriate for you.

If treatment is recommended, your provider will explain the procedure, the medication being used, potential benefits and risks, and what you can expect afterward.

The goal is to help reduce discomfort and improve your ability to move and function as part of a broader, personalized approach to care.

Is Trigger Point Injection Therapy Right for You?

If persistent muscle pain or tightness is interfering with your daily activities, trigger point injections may be one treatment option to discuss with your healthcare provider.
